I wrote this ticket before I understood much about the system. And in
fact, this bug does focus on two somewhat distinct issues, but they are
highly coupled, and although the description could have been less verbose,
I would not put them in separate reports:
1) a particular bug in Browse or in the clipboard API relating to
encoding [[br]]
2) a the inconsistent behavior that results from this bug.
The issue that this bug attempts to describe is that formatted text in
Browse is apparently encoded differently than other types of text, and
that such encoding breaks the Journal-clipboard interaction. That's it;
everything else described here are symptoms and side-effects of that bug
(or at least that was my intent, sorry for the verbosity).
It may be advisable to create new bug reports for the other issues that
are hinted at here (specifically, the issue of inconsistency with regard
to text-handling, which may have been improperly raised within the
description of this bug, and which I put in bug #5753), but this bug is
intended only to cover the encoding issue.
BTW, I just verified that this bug remains in joyride-1492:
1) copy formatted text out of this page [[br]]
2) add the clipping to the journal [[br]]
3) try to open that clipping out of the journal: nothing happens. [[br]]
