If you change Access Point configuration, for example from WEP to WPA or
vice versa, you won't be able to associate to it via UI from an XO that
has previously (before the configuration was changed) associated.
The XO will try to associate with old parameters stored in
/home/olpc/sugar/default/nm/networks.cfg and fail.
After failing, sugar will display incorrect dialog box (example WEP dialog
window for an AP that is now WPA or vice versa).
Restart sugar will make the correct dialog window to be displayed, but
still won't make you associate.
Only removing /home/olpc/.sugar/default/nm/networks.cfg and then
restarting sugar seems guaranteed to work.
This was observed in many different builds and I believe it's there since
the very beginning of times ;)
[I am selecting sugar as the main component though Network Manager also
seems a good candidate. I defer better classification to triage ;) ]
