 Read-43 did not work for me.  I modified it, following the patch, and it
 worked.  I just tested Read-44 and file transfer also works.

 However, transfer is not reliable, because Read suspends so aggressively
 that it will interrupt the transfer, or sleep through it.  I am testing on
 B4's, where suspend should not be happening at all, anyway. Perhaps the
 behavior is better on MP machines, but I doubt it.  Beware of this when
 testing transfers in Read.
