 I doubt that it will fix the Linux/Sugar problems.

 Your description of what you did leaves me wondering if the partition
 information is inconsistent with the actual size of the device.  Copying
 FS images onto media tends to cause that.  In fact, using random Linux
 commands to put stuff onto media has a high probability of inconsistencies
 between the actual media size, what is listed in the partition table, and
 the actual filesystem layout, both in terms of sizes and filesystem types.
 Linux gives you enough rope to hang yourself, and there are lots of
 hangings.
