 If there's no active telepathy connection, Pippy crashes on launch, as
 mentioned on the devel list.

 The offending call is get_preferred_connection.

 This is exacerbated by #6299 (stopping salut for a while to try and
 connect to a schoolserver with gabble) which will result in times when
 there is legitimately no connection.

 If #6299 goes into Update.1, this must too...
