Comment(by tomeu):

I see three alternative ways of supporting similar or related use cases:

 '''Installation from the network'''

Biology lesson starts, the teacher tells the pupils to go to that
subject's space in the local server's Moodle. Children download the lesson
material from that space. This should work as of today.

 '''Preinstallation into the images'''

Most likely every country will want to deploy customized images, created
via save-nand or pilgrim. This probably fulfills a very different use case
as content won't be as generalizable as software?

 '''Sharing of journal entries'''

Teacher shares an entry or a bundle of entries from his/her journal.
Children grab it from the mesh view. Not implemented yet, but I think this
use case is considered as a pretty important one to be implemented
 soonish.

 One more consideration:

 - if the content files are very big, then it will probably be material
that will be used during a long period of time, its installation won't be
 often.

 - if the files are small, then perhaps frequent distribution across the
 network is feasible.

I'm not opposed at implementing autoinstallation from USB, but I'm
concerned that finding a good design for it may be hard. This stems from
the fact that we are adding to the meaning of plugging an USB stick from
"get access to that extra storage" to "and get something autoinstalled in
my XO". How can we expose to the user what is going on at every moment?
