Comment(by walter):

 If become_root is simply /bin/su, then it *is* a root shell. The only
 question is whether we want a separate root shell terminal activity or
 just to transform the current terminal activity into a root shell on
 demand. Although it is not quite standard, I think the later is a better
 fit within our current limitations of time and space.
