The bit transfer rate on my wired ethernet is about one magnitude faster
than the XO-1 wireless bit transfer rate. Yet when in Terminal I do
'sugar-control-panel -g available_updates', that command completes in less
than 5 minutes if my connection is through a wireless AP, but takes 15 or
more minutes to complete if my connection is through my wired ethernet.
[This has been true for a long time, including currently on F10-based
 Joyride.]

For one thing, I'm seeing that on my wired ethernet, when checking for
more recent versions, the entire WikipediaActivity bundle [100 MB] plus
the WikipediaActivityEN bundle [100 MB] get downloaded to my XO. (I do
not have those Activities installed on my XO.) 'Software update' ought to
be able to check for "newer" without doing massive downloads.
