 Went to text console (alt-ctl-F2).  Issued command 'olpc-update --full -v
 joyride-2599'.  The following printed out:

  > rsync: failed to connect to updates.laptop.org: Network is unreachable
 (101) [[BR]]
  > rsync error:error in socket IO (code 10)at clientserver.c(122)
 [receiver=3.0.4] [[BR]] [[BR]]

  >   rsync://updates.laptop.org/build-joyride-2599/contents [[BR]]
  > I don't think you're connected to the internet,

 The same command issued from Terminal (as root) works correctly.
