 I have reflashed the machine with os767.img (8.2) and re-activated it by
 copying its activation key out of the saved image. The result is the same.
 There is some display oddness and corruption. My belief is that the
 problem is hardware related. This is secondarily checked by the use of the
 same image on another machine (wad notes it boots fine).
