 I have no idea of what is going on.  2583 appears to be more consistent
 than earlier versions -- but the ethernet still gets unpredictably
 assigned to eth0 or eth1.  I've now seen one case where wired ethernet did
 connect properly - but that was where I plugged in the cable *after* the
 system had booted.
