 I spoke with Joe about this.  He says the bug is that characters appear
 occasionally without pressing any of the character keys.  (This is
 different, of course, than the last two bugs, which said in effect "when a
 user types characters on the keyboard, confusing things happen")

 No idea where this bug lies, I think it'll be very hard to track down.
