 It appears that (with NM 0.7) if the XO's ethernet adapter gets assigned
 to interface 'eth1', nm-tool reports the expected state.  But if the
 assigned interface is not 'eth1', nm-tool reports 'disconnected'.

 To me there appears to be no pattern as to whether 'eth1' gets assigned to
 the ethernet adapter, or not.  The assignment changes from build_number to
 build_number;  from system to system;  and maybe even from cable to cable.
