Comment(by mikus):

 On another XO with 2576, the ethernet adapter got assigned to eth0. My
 wired ethernet was not automatically connected in a way that I could use
 (eth0 got assigned an IPv6 address).

 So it appears that whether (with NM 0.7) wired ethernet gets connected (by
 "connected" I mean having that system's IP address assigned by DHCP)
 depends upon whether the system's ethernet adapter gets assigned to
 interface 'eth1' or not. And I can make no sense out of which interface
 gets assigned when to the XO's ethernet adapter. [It changes from
 build_number to build_number; from system to system; and maybe even from
 cable to cable.]
