 it was not on boot.

 i was simply playing with the mouse, in network view, when things sort of
 froze up.  (i've been playing with the new touchpad, which has tap-to-
 click enabled.  i'd been doing a lot of tapping and palette bring-up and
 selection.  when i ended up in this situation, i tried to remember clearly
 what i must have done, but could not.)

 i haven't been able to reproduce.
