Comment(by dsd):

 Looks like paint got stuck in a loop, logging "Out of space!!!" repeatedly
 (forming a 1.6GB log file). It also confused X, and caused the Paint and
 Browse process to go defunct.

 This was reproduced trivially on 2 XOs.
