Comment:

 this is related to thumbnailing and to our imagemagick script being shut
 down (it had separate memory issues).  Increasing memory for the wiki
 processes and turning IM back on should resolve all such issues; the
 history quirk is a slightly different mediawiki issue in these cases and
 not critical (won't keep images from rendering properly).
