 I was playing with the X11 app /usr/bin/totem that's in joyride-2301 and
 noticed that in its Edit > Preferences > Audio > "Audio output type" pop-
 up, the same thing happens: if you choose something near the bottom of the
 list in the pop-up, the next time you click the item, the pop-up appears
 with scroll arrows.

 I think GTK is trying to position the pop-up so the current selection in
 the menu is positioned on top of the item (rather than the pop-up always
 being a drop-down), and this may require scroll arrows.  But in the case
 of Memorize's size item, there isn't enough room to do this for "5 x 5" or
 "6 x 6" even with scroll arrows, so there's no point in showing them.
