Comment:

After days of experimenting I '''can now reproduce the symptoms on
 demand''':

Run joyride-2301. Checkmark "Advanced Power Management" in Control Panel.
Keep hands off XO at least one minute until auto-suspend happens
(backlight dims & power LED flashes). Wake up XO by using touchpad or
keyboard. From then on, My battery status no longer updates.

This bug happens with or without the mains power adapter attached (my
previous descriptions or speculations were incorrect). I have seen it hide
the fact that my battery is nearly charged or nearly empty. Right now, it
has been showing 95% charged for 85 minutes. But when I press the Power
button... twice (to suspend/resume)... then wait a minute or two until the
next 1% event comes thru... voila! Now My Battery shows 50%, which is
reasonable. It is a nuisance to lose WiFi (temporarily), but I myself can
 live with this bug.

I suppose I should just uncheck Advanced Power Management, since it
 doesn't do much for me.

Now, I am curious: '''does this bug affect all XO's running
joyride-2301?''' Or is my XO special? How many users will be affected if
 this bug is not fixed?

Does anyone know how to fix this bug, or '''is more diagnosis needed?'''
