Comment:

 Note that the GNU gettext documentation mentions that the C implementation
 caches the results; we should strongly consider using the same
 algorithm/heuristics/cache size as it does, since that will result in
 behavior users "expect".

 I hope to specify a tweaked gettext for 9.1 to deal with search path and
 other issues; I'll link to that proposal here as soon as I get it written
 up.
