 Couldn't the delay slow down transfers by causing a delay in TCP ACKs
 coming from the host kernel?  We'd be hitting the debugging in the driver
 before incoming packets are passed to the TCP stack.

 That makes sense too.  I'll try harder to reproduce tomorrow.
