Comment:

 Just repeated a similar test in joyride-2301. Timed with stopwatch over 4
 launches and used mean. Rebooted between regular and the 'no anim' test.
 Icon pulse animation was prevented by modifying CanvasPulsingIcon's
 _start_pulsing() method with an early return.

 Summary: The average time spent pulsing the activity icon during launch is
 2sec (or 25% of total launch time).

 Even with the current pulse effect in the launch splash screen,
 joyride-2301 is still on average 4sec faster per activity launch than is
