Comment:

 I also saw what we assume to be this same bug.  In my case, only the
 keyboard stopped working; touchpad was still operational.  I'd had the
 machine on for a while when the keyboard suddenly stopped working.  As in
 pgf's case, plugging in a USB keyboard sufficed to workaround.

 smithbone loaded up sdkit on my machine and verified that the EC keyboard
 registers were not obviously stuck.  Turning on i8042 debug in the kernel
 showed that the i8042 was still processing interrupts, but we only got
 interrupts from touchpad events, not the keyboard (touchpad and keyboard
 share the same interrupt line).  Further, the gamepad keys still worked,
 and those get passed to the kernel as keypresses.  smithbone might be able
 to add more information.
