 Cerebro creates an additional IP address from the selected network
 interface's MAC address (for when working over a mesh interface), even
 when an IP address already exists for that interface. This causes
 confusion amongst various other network applications on my laptop... At
 one point this was labelled in the code as a 'bad hack'.
