 It might be nicer if the "update your activities" message was tied in some
 way to your acquiring a network connection.  However, we need to tell
 people that they should update their activities even if there's not yet a
 network, so they are not surprised when/if their activities fail to work
 after the upgrade.

 Possibly grey out the 'check now' button until there's a network
 connection?

 Will be easier/less invasive to implement if #7940 is fixed first.
