 tvoverbeek will spend some more time looking at this, perhaps with
 smithbone's help. smithbone would like us to find him access to the
 equipment required to do controlled experiments. jg would like us to fix
 #1407. Otherwise, nothing new is known.

 Finally, dsaxena: there have been other reports of touchpad
 deterioriation. search trac.
