 I'm o.k. with you closing this -- but for the first time ever I
 experienced a single instance of this failure.  It may well have been a
 momentary DHCP problem (when I rebooted later, the ethernet came up fine)
 -- but there might be a TIMING WINDOW which results in mesh being set up
 instead of ethernet.  [I was able to do 'ifconfig eth0 down', then
 'ifconfig eth0 up 192.168.1.8' -- and everything was in place correctly,
 including /etc/resolv.conf and 'netstat -rn'.  [Joyride 2284]
