 marco, the xsmp support you checked in solves the "notify activities"
 part, but (if I understand correctly) doesn't solve the "ohm and olpc-
 update want to request a clean shutdown" portion of this bug.  (cf
 comment:26:ticket:6014)  Should I reopen this bug to address that, or open
 a new bug?  This issue is still blocking #4878. (cjb, is there a trac bug
 for "ohm should do a clean shutdown just before the battery runs out?
 this bug would block that one as well.)
