 I also had the same problem after a clean install using:
   ok  copy-nand  disk:\os2263.img

 Gnu's fix worked for me too:[[BR]]
   #  su  olpc[[BR]]
   $  mkdir  /home/olpc/Activities[[BR]]
 then rebooted, then retried software updater, then it succeeded!

 On a previous attempt, doing the mkdir from root did not fix the bug,
 probably because the Activities directory must be owned by olpc rather
 than by root.

 I wonder how many people got bit by it, since I was led to 2263 when the
 home wiki page showed 2263 as a release candidate. Perhaps 2263 should be
 deprecated now?
