Comment:

Depends upon what you mean by 'ignored'. I don't have wireless at home,
so I've __always__ run with an ethernet adapter.

[Initially I did not have a DHCP server installed on my ethernet, and my
attempts to (at the XO) specify a permanent IP address for my XO were
thwarted by Network Manager. So I stopped fighting City Hall, and set up
servers. Ever since, __when I boot my XO__, it reliably connects to the
ethernet. << But things can happen (e.g., suspend) -- where the Network
Manager still steps in and kills my ethernet connection. >> ]

 [[BR]]
G1G1 users will not normally have a 'school server'. I have NOT tried an
ethernet connection *plus* a 'school server' on the mesh -- but when I
boot my XO when there is already an active mesh containing other XOs, my
outside-world connection works no different through ethernet at home than
it does through a wireless AP connection (if I happen to have instead gone
to an establishment that provides an AP).

At home, I don't see wired ethernet being 'ignored'.
