 I'm running joyride-2240 but with olpc-dm changes that I think were the
 moral equivalent of the tty-related olpc-dm change in olpc-utils 0.82-1.
 I'm not sure how changing the tty would cause this symptom, but I'll
 update to joyride-latest to check.

 In the meantime, have you checked ~olpc/.sugar/default/logs/shell.log and
 /var/log/messages?  If you set SUGAR_LOGGER_LEVEL=debug in ~olpc/.xsession
 (as in http://wiki.laptop.org/go/Attaching_Sugar_Logs_to_Tickets ) you
 should see very useful information in there.
