This is just an idea.
There are activities which create objects of their own and are tied to
that specific activity instance.
One such activity, Record, produces videos, photos and audios that are
placed as new entries in the Journal.
I wonder if it wouldn't be better to visually place these objects inside
the activity detailed view in the Journal, and give the kid the option to
make them 1st class objects (from his perspective). They would still be
foundable by searching as single objects tied to a specific activity.
The reason why i suggest this is basically to unclutter the top-level of
the Journal, and to accomodate simillar behaviours in other or future
activities.
For example, this method would integrate well with the sesson and global
bookmarks that Browse will be able to make.
Global bookmarks (cached urls?) are imediatelly viewed as being added on
the Journal list.
Session bookmarks (uncached urls?) are tied to a specific activity, and
would be viewed from that activity detailed view. From there, the user
would be able to "copy" them to the main journal view, upgrading them to
global bookmarks.
Memorize activity will contain game-sets which could also follow this
model. If we go even further, even Etoys project objects could be shown
inside their detailed view, and be searchable as well ("where is that 'red
car' Etoys object?".
What i suggest may not be feasible to do at the moment or near future, but
I'm sending it out as an idea.
Also, because the Journal hasn't got its full searching, meta-data and
tagging features built on yet, I may be missing the full view of how
finding things on the Journal could work, and have its number of entries
be increased not really be a problem, since the main interaction will by
searching.
Finally, this could make these objects 2nd-class, and not be as re-usable
as they could, if otherwise be presente themselves imediatelly on the list
view.
