Comment(by ssb22):

 I have updated the image-reflow utility at
 http://people.pwf.cam.ac.uk/ssb22/notes/ so that it can output to HTML
 format, which can be edited in SeaMonkey (possibly adding annotations) and
 then displayed on the browser or on Opera (in the latter case it works
 with dynamic zoom). As an example of how it can be useful, I'm legally
 blind and I've been asked to interpret a lecture today and I only received
 the notes last night (in hardcopy and in a language for which I have no
 OCR software), so I scanned them in, used that reflow utility, edited the
 result in seamonkey, and loaded them onto the XO (using Opera because it
 has better zoom controls), and I'm just about to go and do it, so let's
 hope nothing breaks (well I'll file another ticket if it does :-)
