Comment(by Eben):

 The "empty space" looks pretty good.  Onto the scrolling regions:

  - Is it possible to put the border only on the bottom?  The double-thick
 border looks a little weird.
  - I think we're using solid arrows in our mockups now.  I'll double-check
 with Pentagram on this.
  - I think we can highlight white to show sensitivity, rather than
 prelight state.  The actual scrolling should make it evident that the
 arrow is being hovered over, so the current approach is redundant in this
 respect.
