Comment:

 The right thing to do is to completely remove the Linux-based reflashers
 from the OS build.  They are currently unused (and unusable because of
 this problem), and will soon be completely ineffective as a result of the
 firmware setting the write-protect latch prior to invoking the operating
 system.

 I recommend removing them immediately, as they currently have no
 legitimate use, and if someone were to use them by mistake, the machine
 would be ruined by loss of mfg data.
