Comment:

 I have now reproduced the problem as described, and the screenshot now
 shows what happens. It was triggered by entering a long line of text which
 wraps.

 I think this is a hippocanvas bug, related to a previous bug where the
 screen didn't scroll far enough - now it scrolls much too far.
