 By default, the painting canvas should fill the entire screen to maximize
 usable area.  The gray "table" beneath the canvas should extend precisely
 far enough that scrolling to the extremes in both axes will pace a corner
 of the canvas in the center of the screen. (This will make it possible to
 use easily with forthcoming stylus support)

 Note that this relates to #3688, which calls for the ability to zoom.
