Comment:

 What I actually said was, "Clearly we could spend money to make sure that
 every part of our machine is safely submersible, but that's probably not a
 good use of money."

 In any case, Richard has convincingly demonstrated that the battery is
 safely submersible.  Pictures attached.

 Also, Richard tested the hypothesis, "the battery will not kill me if i
 lick the contacts."  He reports confirmation of the hypothesis.
