 Right.  Sigh.  I'm afraid I managed to set and lose the root password on
 this build.  And Dev console's log "messages", if indeed it's
 /var/log/messages, has its own problem #3649.  So, I don't appear to be
 able to, sorry.

 It may have simply been a memory exhaustion problem, as I seem to be
 having them.

 Feel free to close the ticket, and I'll re-report if I see it again, or
 manage to replicate.
