 So it depends both on the EC *and* kernel?  Oh, dear!

 We may be seeing two different problems then.

 The one I know very well and concentrated on is:

  1) put your finger on the GS
  2) the cursor jumps to the bottom-right corner of the screen
  3) keep moving the finger and the cursor moves normally
  4) raise your finger
  5) GOTO 1

 It's 100% repeatable once it starts.

 Is this description anywhere similar to what your seeing?
