 Thinking about this some more:

 As shared objects aren't really something we can implement quickly,
 perhaps we should instead aim to implement the full bulletin board design.

 At least, we should have a plan for migrating from shared objects to the
 bulletin board if shared objects will be superfluous when the bulletin
 board comes along.
