 Update:  I rebooted after that and the white page came back.  I then
 rebooted again and the journal looked strange.  It had a border of stars.
 (little start on the sides and big ones in some corners) And only one item
 at the very bottom (record) which had a larger icon than usual.  I
 scrolled down to it and found that beneath it we all the normal items.  I
 then scrolled up again and found that the strange stars had disappeared.
 The journal then looked and acted perfectly normal  I rebooted again a bit
 later and the white page returned.
