Comment:

 I see this as a very important type of control, actually.  It's
 functionality takes the place of the usual "click on button B1 to spawn
 some modal floating dialog D1."  since we're explicitly avoiding dialogs
 as much as possible, this is an invaluable control for these types of
 circumstances.  There are a number of places where this type of control
 belongs, such as:

  - every color picker palette (Currently in Write and Paint)
  - insert object palettes (such as image and table in Write)
  - sharing palette (Activity toolbar; we may have a few more uses for it
 here)
