I don't know if this is a problem or a feature so apologies in advance.
Yesterday I accidentally rebooted the machine with the auto reinstall
files still on the stick and it had backed up files. I removed the stick
during the 2 second reboot so it didn't restore them.

Today I was upgrading to build 566 from 564 on a usb stick I had
previously upgraded with. I had just replaced the build and checksum
files. I put it in the laptop and started it up. It recognized that the
firmware was current but then just started installing the new build. It
didn't backup the old files first. After it installed the build it
rebooted and restored the older backup from the day before.

 OLPC Build: 564

 Kenel Version: Linux-2.6.22-20070830.1.olpc.bff51ac9801503a

 XO Firmware: CL1 Q2C25 Q2C

 XO Serial Number: SHF72500529

 Machine: B4
