When deciding whether we need this for Killjoy, bear in mind that if it's
not done, Killjoy will not interoperate with the release after.
(Let the release where this bug is fixed be R and the following release be
R+1.)
The most likely failure mode is that R users will see R+1 activities, but
attempting to join will effectively place them in a separate activity (and
vice versa).
We could deliberately break the activity advertisement protocol (e.g.
advertise _olpc-activity2._udp instead of _olpc-activity._udp) if "R users
cannot see R+1 activities and vice versa" is considered to be a less
confusing failure mode. In fact, thinking about it, I believe we should do
this.
