 With WEP, and to some degree WPA, you just _have_ to know somethings.  WEP
 is the worst.  There is no way to detect Shared Key/Open System over the
 air, and there is no way to know what key type to use either, unless you
 get told.  Unfortunately some people use valid hex keys as WEP passphrases
 which only complicates things.

 The best bet is to use WPA with a passphrase or hex key, and then we can
 figure out automatically which one you've entered.  WEP is a total loss in
 this regard.  Nobody, even MS or Apple, even tries to do smart things here
 because you just can't.  Mac OS X gives you a menu just like what Sugar
 has, with 4 different options just for WEP.
