 Those laptops were left overnight in the mesh view.
 The first symptom is that access points disappear from the mesh view.

 The firmware still runs and passes mesh traffic around (iwpriv msh0
 fwt_time reports updated time, sniffing reveals that mesh frames are
 forwarded as well as presence information about other XOs is updated on
 the mesh view).

 iwlist eth0 scan returns immediately with no results and iwconfig
 queries/sets are blocking for an interval between several seconds to a few
 minutes. Eventually all the commands complete though and commands through
 the mesh interface (join mesh channel 1 for example) go through with the
 XOs being able to communicate.

 So it seems that the problems are focused in infra mode operation.
