 I had understood that separate AC SCI events would be generated by EC
 versions >= 0x45, but Richard thought I asked him not to bother so he
 removed it.

 He'll put it back in version 0x51, and I've updated the kernel to simulate
 the AC events whenever there's a battery event, for all EC versions older
 than that.
