 No matter what you do to the acceleration parameters, there's no escaping
 the stepwise function, which just isn't enough for our purposes.  It
 imposes a mechanical rigidity on what should feel like a natural extension
 of one's own movement, limiting the expressive potential of the touchpad.

 I think this should be a higher priority than it has been over the past
 several months.
