 In patch #2, please include commentary on the number schema -
 (base_board_rev << 4) + sub_version, where sub_version is 8 for first real
 production, < 8 for preproduction test versions, and >8 for small-tweak
 followons.

 Shame on me for not including such commentary in the original patch.
